Ashfall Wardens

★★★★★ 4.6 Editor rating

Ashfall Wardens is a proper little RPG that doesn't pad itself out. You build a party of four and travel between mountain settlements that are slowly being buried by a strange grey ash. Combat is turn-based but quick, and each character has a small spread of skills you actually use rather than a bloated menu you ignore.

What impressed me is how readable it stays on a phone screen. Enemy intents are shown with clear icons, and swapping party positions is a simple swipe. The writing is restrained and a bit melancholy, which suits the setting. I cared about whether a village made it or not, which is rare for a mobile RPG.

It respects your time with short, self-contained chapters. You can wrap one up in fifteen minutes and feel like you got somewhere. The difficulty curve is fair, with an optional harder mode once you finish the main story.
